I'm in Boston at the moment. This is my friend Aldi with her Chevy Volt. It's an electric car which has a backup petrol engine. I'm amazed at how advanced America is with technology in this field, there are a surprisingly large number of free charging stations around the city (like this one) that you can just plug your car into while you do your thing. This particular car takes 4 hours for a full charge and will last for about 100kms. There's no ignition, just a power button and it's completely silent when running, just like turning on your iPad. Unlike the Prius, this is a sequential engine setup so it uses the battery first then switches to petrol when the battery's flat. The other major electric car available here is the Tesla, it's powered only by a battery engine and will get you 426kms from a single charge. More and more charge stations are being installed all over the country. Australia is probably about 10 years behind. #chevyvolt #electriccar #tesla
